MELODY:
Learn to play these two notes and repeat them as a melody on the top e string.

 

ADD the BASS:

As you play the first note, play the bottom E string with your thumb. You can do this just at the beginning, with every note or just when you think it fits best.

 

A riff is a repeating pattern.
A short melody that is played over and over again in a song.
Riffs are often hooks (the part of the song you remember).
Riffs can change pitch to follow the chord sequence (e.g. a Blues riff following the 12-bar Blues sequence.
